about

Most people that know me are probably aware of the fact that I have a near infinite capacity to hold a grudge. Considering this however, there are probably only two or three people who have actually managed to find themselves on the receiving end of my ire, and this song is about a dream I had that included one of these people. I was exploring an abandoned warehouse made entirely of glass with a friend, when we suddenly heard the sound of people approaching. Fearing that it was the police, the friend ran away and I took refuge in a moldly old bed in the middle of the warehouse. My hiding place wasn’t very good though, and sure enough I was found – not by the police, but by the person I disliked quite a lot.
The person got into the bed with me, and I laughed. They looked at me and asked what was so funny, and I say that it’s just kinda strange that I would find myself sharing a bed with one of the people I hated more than anyone else in this world. They start laughing too at this point, apparently comfortable knowing that.
We just kind of led there for a while after that, until they turned to me and made a pretty impressive philosophical speech about the nature of relationships and people and introspection. It went on for a little while, and ended with the line “and what does that make us?”.
Silence fell over us as I came to a pretty big realisation, and we then both fell asleep in that moldly bed.
After I woke up, I found that through that dream I had greatly reduced the intensity of the grudge that I had carried for years. Of course I am a stubborn guy so I will never actually let go of it completely, but it was so interesting to see the effect an entirely fictional interaction can have on a relationship that I had to include this dream in the album.
